Format rozgrywek Premier League 2025/2026

Premier League to liga, w której rywalizuje 20 drużyn. Zespoły rozgrywają mecze systemem zgodnie, z którym każda drużyna gra z każdą inną drużyną dwa razy – raz u siebie, raz na wyjeździe. Sezon trwa od sierpnia do maja, a każda drużyna rozgrywa 38 spotkań. Za zwycięstwo drużyny otrzymują 3 punkty, za remis 1 punkt, a za porażkę – 0 punktów. Po zakończeniu sezonu drużyny są klasyfikowane na podstawie liczby zdobytych punktów, a w przypadku remisu w tej kategorii, bierze się pod uwagę różnicę bramek, a następnie liczbę strzelonych goli. Jeśli drużyny mają identyczną liczbę punktów, zajmują tę samą pozycję w tabeli.

W przypadku remisu między drużynami o tytuł mistrza, utrzymanie w lidze, bądź o kwalifikacje do innych rozgrywek, kluczowe są wyniki bezpośrednich spotkań między tymi drużynami. W takim przypadku decyduje liczba zdobytych punktów w tych meczach, a w razie dalszej równości – bramki strzelone na wyjeździe. Jeśli nadal nie będzie możliwe rozstrzygnięcie, ostateczny werdykt może zapaść po rozegraniu dodatkowego meczu barażowego na neutralnym stadionie, choć oczywiście takie przypadki są rzadkością.

Trzy ostatnie drużyny w tabeli Premier League po zakończeniu sezonu są relegowane do Championship, natomiast dwie najlepsze drużyny z Championship awansują do Premier League. Dodatkowo, drużyny z miejsc 3-6 po fazie zasadniczej na zapleczu ligi angielskiej rywalizują w play-offach o awans do najwyższej klasy rozgrywkowej.

Warto dodać, że liczba drużyn w Premier League została zmniejszona z 22 do 20 w 1995 roku. Zmiana ta miała na celu uproszczenie systemu rozgrywek, a także zapewnienie większej konkurencyjności. Choć FIFA sugerowała zmniejszenie liczby drużyn do 18, Premier League zdecydowanie opowiedziała się przeciwko tej propozycji, utrzymując liczbę drużyn na poziomie 20.

W sezonie 2025/2026 Premier League będziemy świadkami rywalizacji 20 drużyn, w tym zarówno stałych bywalców najwyższej klasy rozgrywkowej, jak i powracających po kilku latach nieobecności beniaminków. Z Championship awans Leeds United, Burnley i Sunderland, które powróciły do Premier League po odpowiednio dwóch, jednym i ośmiu latach nieobecności. Z kolei względem poprzedniego sezonu, w lidze nie będziemy oglądać Leicester City, Ipswich Town oraz Southampton, którzy spadli po jednym sezonie w Premier League. Był to drugi sezon z rzędu i zaledwie trzeci przypadek w historii angielskiej najwyższej klasy rozgrywkowej, w którym wszyscy beniaminkowie spadli z ligi po ledwie jednym sezonie od awansu.

Następnie, 16 sierpnia, zobaczymy m.in. spotkanie z udziałem byłych mistrzów Anglii, bowiem Manchester City zagra z Wolverhampton. Natomiast w niedzielę Manchester United zmierzy się z Arsenalem. Chelsea, z kolei, podejmie zdobywców Pucharu FA, Crystal Palace.

Manchester United rozpocznie swój pierwszy pełny sezon pod wodzą Rubena Amorima 17 sierpnia, kiedy to zmierzy się z Arsenalem na Old Trafford. W pierwszych pięciu meczach czekają ich także spotkania z Manchesterem City i Chelsea, tak więc Czerwone Diabły nie mają łatwego terminarza na początku sezonu. Podobnie jak i Arsenal – w pierwszych sześciu spotkaniach The Gunners zmierzą się z Leeds, Liverpoolem, Nottingham Forest, Manchesterem City oraz Newcastle.

Ciekawostką jest, że w tym sezonie nie ma zaplanowanych meczów na Boxing Day, ale Premier League ogłosiła, że mecze z 27 grudnia mogą zostać przeniesione na ten dzień w celu transmisji na żywo. Sezon zakończy się 24 maja 2026 roku.
